A.P.C. Quilts Round 26: The Butterfly Effect
14 November 2024
The inspiration for A.P.C.'s Jessica Ogden Quilts Round 26 comes from the Ogden family's artistic legacy. "In 1969, my mother, Annabella Ogden, went to Jamaica to raise funds for Operation Friendship, a school and training center for disadvantaged children in Kingston," says Jessica. "She created greeting cards featuring drawings by local children and artists, along with textile art from my grandmother, Joan Ogden, a skilled batik artist. Joan, or 'Grandma' to me, did a series on butterflies, which became the starting point for Round 26."
Round 26, divided into seven color groups, reflects the vibrant diversity of butterfly wings and the artistic influences Jessica grew up with. Jean Touitou added a psychedelic touch, inspired by the album cover of the band Iron Butterfly.
Each quilt is named after a butterfly, with the idea guiding the design process but never literally portrayed, Jean explained.
